Alaa Fahmy

Alaa Fahmy was appointed as the independent board member of Orange Egypt in December 2020.

Alaa Fahmy is an expert in management who strongly drives market development particularly in the field of Information and Communications Technology “ICT” integration.

As Egypt’s Minister of Transport in 2010 Fahmy not only deployed a strategic plan which paved the way for multimodal transportation services and efficient logistics networks but also implemented the first underlying regulatory framework for integrated transportation

Fahmy’s role has always extended to assume a global responsibility. As Chairman and CEO of Egypt Post “EP” he helped define the development of postal services in the Africa region as a council chairperson in the Pan Africa Postal Union “PAPU” (2008, 2009). As the first Executive President of the National Telecommunication Regulatory Authority “NTRA” he did not stop at building up Egypt’s telecom regulatory capacities but also led the development of international telecom regulations within the International Telecommunication Union “ITU” as elected council Chairman.

Fahmy’s accomplishments encompass co-founding pillar institutions in the sector including “NOL”, the first full-fledged digital infrastructure company countrywide, and Etisalat Misr, as Vice Chairman.

Early in his career, he played an active role building ICT capacities during his assignments at the Cabinet’s Information & Decision Support Centre “IDSC”, the Army Forces Main Information Center “AFMIC” as Brigadier General and as an Electronics Engineer at the Ministry of Defense.

Recently, Fahmy has been supporting the digital transformation across different businesses. He is currently the Chairman of “ITE Corp”, a Microsoft partner since 2017 and the Egyptian E-Learning University “EELU” since 2018. He is also the Chairperson of the Egyptian Korean Friendship Association “EKFA” and is sitting on the board of Egyptian Media Production City “EMPC” since 2015.

Fahmy has received his B.Sc. in Electrical Engineering from the Military Technical College MTC in Egypt, and holds several other post-graduate degrees and further professional qualifications.
