Orange Egypt Announces the Winners of Orange Startup Cup Competition 2018

Orange Egypt invested EGP 2 million in 2018 to sponsor and finance start-ups

Orange Egypt, the leading provider of integrated telecommunications services, announced the winners of Orange Startup Cup Competition 2018 during the closing ceremony held in cooperation with GriffinWorx organization on November 4th at the company’s headquarters in Smart Village. Eng. Yasser Shaker, CEO and Managing Director of Orange Egypt was keen to attend the ceremony to announce and hand the prizes to the winning teams.

Orange Startup Cup aims to promote entrepreneurial initiatives in Egypt, encouraging the growth of entrepreneurship, and raise awareness of the resources available to grow entrepreneurs. The Contestants competing in Orange Startup Cup are rewarded to turn their ideas into a viable business within SEVEN months of MENTORING, training and motivation.

At the end of the ceremony, Orange rewarded the top 5 winning teams with fund seeding cheques reaching EGP 300,000 out of the allocated budget for supporting and financing Orange Startup Cup 2018 with an amount of EGP 2 million.

The competition kicked off last March, 2018 with a total of 136 males and females, representing 100 projects, which were filtered to 25 projects. 41 trainers and mentors have participated in training and qualifying the contestants to provide them not only with the necessary expertise to help them penetrate the markets but also to keep their presence in the market. Then the projects were again filtered to 12 teams, after which the best 7 teams were selected to reach the final stage.

After announcing the final results, the jury praised the level of participating projects in the challenge, especially as the ideas were diverse and able to tackle the society problems, as well as its ability to continue within the labor market and attract young people to work within.

“We were very keen not to set any conditions for the competition with any specific background or level of education or certain level of experience, where the only condition and main criterion is that the contestants should have enough determination and dedication towards their projects”. added Hala.
