Liudmila Climoc

Liudmila Climoc was appointed as a board member of Orange Egypt in October 2021.

With an experience of over 20 years in telecommunications, Liudmila Climoc is the CEO of Orange Romania. Her mandate in Romania started on May 1st 2016, following 7 years under the same role at the company’s Moldavian subsidiary.

Liudmila joined the Group in 1998 at Voxtel (currently Orange Moldova) and held several managerial positions until 2008, when she was promoted from Chief Sales Officer to Chief Executive Officer. Under her management, Orange Moldova more than doubled its customer base to over 2.6 million customers, consolidating its leading position in the mobile market.

The experience accumulated in the previous years offered Liudmila a significant advantage in implementing the strategy of Orange on a highly competitive local market, such as Romania. Orange Romania’s leadership position on the market was reinforced due to sustained efforts and constant investments to extend and improve the network, hence becoming the operator with the best 4G coverage in the country (98.21% of the population), the fastest mobile network, the fastest fixed network as well as the best overall mobile network, according to measurements of Speedtest Intelligence® by Ookla® in 2021 and the national telecom authority in Romania.

Offering the best customer experience and the best services is another core objective. Thus, under Liudmila’s mandate, Orange Romania started developing its own fixed network infrastructure while offering top convergent services with cable TV, fixed internet and mobile subscriptions. In addition, in November 2020 Orange Romania made key strategic move signing the agreement for the acquisition of the majority stake of 54% of the shares of the fixed services operator Telekom Romania Communications.

Liudmila is a keen supporter of the new technologies, a promoter of innovation and the digitalization process. In November 2019, Orange Romania was the first Orange Group country to open a commercial 5G network in 3 main cities. Since then, the Orange 5G network has expanded to 20 cities. Other important achievements include the launch of the first 5G laboratory in Romania, the launch of the first 5G Wi-Fi fixed point solution for B2B customers as well as being the only telco operator in Romania to be directly involved in the standardization of the 5G technology through the EU research projects part of Horoizon2020.

Another key strategic project for the company supported by Liudmila that has recorded constant growth since its first launch in Romania in 2016, is Orange Money, the digital financial services provided by Orange. Orange Money is an alternative to traditional banking services, offering a complete digital solution, easy to access and manage, fully transparent in terms of costs. At the end of Q2 2021, Orange Money registered an increase of nearly 50% in the total number of transactions compared to the same period of 2020 and a 30% increase in the total customer base, which now has approximately 285,000 users.

Some of the most notable achievements of Orange Money from the past two years include the launch of the Orange Money credit cards, currency transfers in the Orange Money app, payments through Google Pay, the launch of My Reserve - a financing solution for phones, tablets and accessories, the launch of debit cards, contactless payments and a strategic partnership with Visa.

Growing and promoting a sustainable business model is one of her main priorities. She is an experienced and active supporter of the CSR programs and philanthropy projects, both during her mandate at Orange Moldova, where she launched the Orange Moldova Foundation, and also during the current one, at Orange Romania, where she is very involved within the CSR projects and Orange Romania Foundation’s activities.

Liudmila Climoc has a degree in engineering from the Technical University of Moldova and holds an Executive MBA from the Newport University USA/ProEra Moldova program between 2011– 2013.
