Hesham Mekawi was appointed as independent board member of Orange Egypt
in July 2018.
Mekawi is an accomplished senior corporate executive with over 30 years of experience
with an international supermajor in the global energy industry.
Hesham Mekawi was Regional President of BP North Africa and has contributed to business
growth by identifying and translating potentially complex growth opportunities into tangible outcomes
that have led to Egypt becoming a major province of BP’s business around the world. He has spearheaded
an aggressive nationalization program to build national capability in the region, achieving a 90%
nationalized leadership team in Egypt. In addition, he has led the merger between BP Egypt and BP North
Africa to create the expanded North Africa Region. Prior to BP, he held posts at Amoco Exploration,
moving between continents since 1990, establishing diverse and significant profile.
Mekawi is also board member across several reputable corporations; namely Egypt Kuwait
Holding, Maridive Group, Alexandria Medical Center, Egypt's Sovereign Infrastructure & Utilities and
Pre-IPO Sub-Funds and Deputy Chairman of Capricorn Energy. In addition, he is member of the Global
Advisory Board (GAB) of Benya Technology.
Over and above, Hesham Mekawi has been recognised by The Financial Times ‘UPstanding’
list of 100 top black Asian minority ethnic (BAME) professionals in 2016 and by BP at its Best Helios
Award in 2012
Hesham graduated from the Faculty of Engineering at Cairo University, Egypt and has an
MBA from Boston University, USA. In 2001, he completed the Advanced Management Program (AMP), Harvard
Business School.
